A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another. - John 13:34-35
We have had several meaningful encounters with victims through our outreach project in North East Florida. Each time we go to a new home we take a Care Bag of Emergency Supplies including non-perishable meals, paper products, sanitary wipes, cleaning supplies, a case of water, candles, a flashlight, a Bible and an invitation card providing an opportunity to get to know Jesus personally. Team members have an incredible opportunity to help those in need while sharing their love for Jesus and thankfulness for all He has done for Him!
Rather than sharing several stories allow me to tell you about Terry Evans. The Evans modest red and white clap-board home had water nearly to the roof during Irma. The flooring is particle board and even now, two weeks later, the swollen waters of the St. Johns floods the house every high-tide. The mold is surely growing inside this humble, salt of the earth man’s home. He needs our help and works 6-6 daily. He was amazed to see two large piles of trees and branches stacked by the street, chain-link fences cleared of debris and to find the Care Bag from All Souls by his front door when he got home.
Last night Terry asked: So, are you from Bob’s Church? I said yes we are. He replied, I don’t understand it but I am grateful! Bob is a good man.
The Evans home and story is like so many across the state. This project is going to take time, a lot of effort from many Christians and a lot of money to repair. We are blessed to have a Bishop and Diocese who care enough to get involved, and of course the help, prayers and support of ARDF and so many!
Together we are making a difference for Christ in the lives of less fortunate neighbors around us, day by day; step by step. I am grateful for the support of the Church Army, my Director and for the many Churches across the ACNA who are praying and getting involved. Our Blessing comes by sharing outwardly through our actions, listening to grieving hearts and as G-d provides the opportunity, we gain permission to share our love for Him though our words.
Each encounter is unique with its own special circumstances. To see the joy on the face of someone in need takes your breath away. I have heard: Why are you doing this? I don’t understand? Wow this is amazing! Or they may fall into a chair weeping. I think our volunteers receive a biggest blessing! … if that is possible? This IS the church being the Body of Christ (Corpus Christi) in action, His Church! Everyone receives a blessing, the Angels in Heaven rejoice and our Lord Jesus the Christ (Adonai Yeshua ha Mashiach) smiles down upon us!
This morning my pastor said, Ric, thank you for inviting me yesterday; It was Incredible!
What a Joy to be used in His service!
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. - Romans 12:13
